Problem
A paste fill plant required a dependable method to dose binder material from a day bin into the mixing process while maintaining an accurate binder-to-paste ratio. The system needed to continuously measure material flow and automatically adjust the feed rate in response to signals from the plant’s PLC. Achieving precise dosing was critical to maintain consistent product quality and stable process performance.
Solution
We designed and built a pivoted weigh screw to serve as the primary dosing and measurement component within the binder handling system. Material discharged from a rotary valve beneath the day bin enters the pivoted weigh screw, where throughput is continuously measured as the screw conveys the binder downstream. The pivoted configuration enables highly accurate inline weighing, allowing real-time monitoring of the material flow rate. The electrical control panel and PLC integration were supplied by Automation & Control, enabling the system to monitor screw throughput and adjust the rotary valve speed to maintain the required dosing rate.
Outcome
The completed pivoted weigh screw system delivers precise, automated binder dosing with continuous measurement of material throughput. Real-time flow monitoring combined with responsive control ensures the binder feed accurately matches the plant’s process requirements. The result is a reliable dosing solution that supports consistent paste production and efficient plant operation.
